Frequently asked questions

What can I expect to happen during my Initial CBT Assessment?

During your Initial CBT Assessment we will spend time exploring what has brought you to therapy.

This will include exploring what your main current mental health difficulties are, how they affect you and how these impact on your daily life.

We will also explore and set meaningful, achievable goals that you want to work on during therapy.

What can I expect to happen during therapy sessions?

During therapy sessions we will work collaboratively to understand your mental health problem and how it impacts on your daily life.

We will discuss challenging situations and explore your thoughts, feelings and behaviours related to them.

We will work together to develop new strategies and approaches to managing unhelpful thinking patterns and behaviours.

We will collaboratively set Home Practice tasks for you to engage in between sessions.

Be mindful that therapy sessions can be difficult for some people, and it is common to feel distress, discomfort and strong emotions during and after sessions.

Some people can feel tired and fatigued following sessions, so it is important to allow yourself some time afterwards for reflection and self-care.

How long and frequent are therapy sessions?

Your Initial CBT Assessment session lasts between 60 and 90 minutes.

Individual Therapy and Skills Building Short Courses sessions generally last between 50 and 60 minutes, although this may differ for specific problems such as Menopause, where sessions are 90 minutes long.

Sessions are offered on a weekly or fortnightly basis.

How many sessions will I need?

This can vary depending on the mental health problem you want to work on in therapy and the goals you set.

Session amounts range from 6-20 depending on NICE recommended guidelines.

Most people will complete therapy within 12 -16 sessions.

What if I don't know what my mental health problem is or it doesn't fit the ones mentioned?

If you are unsure what your problem is or it doesn't fit the ones mentioned please get in touch for a free 15 minute consultation where we can discuss your needs in further detail.

Our approach to therapy is flexible and can be adapted to suit your individual needs and the goals you want to work on.

We are happy to discuss how we can find an approach that works for you.
